Thanks to George Lunn for these photos from December 1967 and June 1968.

More comments on these plays and the Drama Society in the sixties can be found on Drama at the Royal High in the 1960s

“English master, David Campbell, had initiated contact with James Gillespie’s girls school and with them we did The Physicists by Friedrich Durrenmatt. Again, this was a courageous choice of an avant-garde play that didn’t, shall we say, wear its meaning on its face. I played Einstein.” Brean Hammond.

“You mentioned a play featuring a Swiss Sanatorium, a hunchback and a murder which would be Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s ‘The Physicists’ which was first performed in Zurich in 1962. The person in charge of the Sanatorium was the hunchbacked psychiatrist Fräulein Dr. Mathilde von Zahnd.” Alex Prentice

The first set of photos are from this production of “The Physicists performed16th June 1968.
