Early arrivals found the Iron Duke pub crammed with drinkers watching Spain versus Morocco on a large screen. After the last kick of the game the crush gradually eased and we were able to find our table in the corner near the bar. Our party soon got under way and, as usual, the Iron Duke’s beers and wines did not disappoint. The hard-working bar staff had to clear a mountain of used glasses from the earlier crowd but they were still quick to respond to our requests for additional refreshment. The first prize in the raffle was a bottle of vintage port, donated by Val Peay, which was won by Brian Eddington. The party wound down around 9:30 p.m. as, one by one, we made our way to the nearest underground station.
