Rare Film of Move to Barnton 1968

In 1968 the school moved from the magnificent but outdated town centre Regent Road buildings to a brand new custom built school in the leafy suburb of Barnton, some four and a half miles away.

Former pupil George Lunn has restored this film taken at the time and it can be viewed on his YouTube channel .

As George says – Movie film of the Royal High School, Edinburgh, UK taken in May and June 1968 showing pupils in the old school on Calton Hill then dissolving to the new school in Barnton. The pupils moved to the Barnton site for the last few weeks of the school year. Filmed with a Bolex B8 Standard 8 cine camera using a 12.5 mm f2.5 Yvar standard lens, a 7 mm wide angle lens, and a 36 mm telephoto lens on Kodachrome film.

Our grateful thanks to George for sharing this with us.
